WordGirl Update

It's Sunday, so I drew a new number for the upcoming week (since I blogged ahead last week). It was fun to see that both my sisters had been blogging and left comments! Yeah for readers! I hope everyone is having a lovely summer and eating lots of fresh veggies. I am amazed at how much Farmers Markets have changed . . . there are crafters and more at the last few I've been to. The one in Northfield was crazy - like a street fair! Bakers, music, jewelry makers, potters, and veggies too. I had so much fun with my sister-in-law Laurie! I'd love to go back. Here's the postcard they handed out:

I bought an excellent loaf of focacia bread, some sweet peas, and a green pepper. We enjoyed the music of the New Prague Community Band and chatted a lot. We looked at lots of lovely goods and sampled some treats.

Darling Word Girl... if I knew how to comment or add a "like", or some other imogi (is that spelled correctly???), I would.  But I'm a little (heh, heh), tech challenged.

Today I read something in my newest Where Women Create Business Magazine and there was an article that I'd like to share but don't know how.  Sigh.

I think I'll go pull more weeds in the garden instead - you can almost see all of the patio cuz I ripped all those green buggers that escaped the lawn up already and I crunched some cans - then a mosquito (or something), bit me in the middle of my back so I went inside to use the back scratcher (I loooove whoever invented those things!), they're almost as good as having your sister scratch your back for you!!!

Love and sunshine,

The blog goddess

WordGirl Week 30 Item #50

So as soon as I drew the slip of paper and checked the list to see what #50 was . . . I decided to just go ahead and blog it now.

"Donate groceries to a food shelter (or someone in need), volunteer at Feed My Starving Children or a soup kitchen, etc this week." Our church has been running a food drive this month to restock the food shelves at the Peace Center in New Prague. I dedicated a big part of my Costco run to that cause. I also get extra groceries from time to time for a young family with tight finances.

It has been a few months since I volunteered at FMSC, but I do that a few times a year, too, and donate money as well.

This is an awesome item! But I'm not going to make it a priority this week, since it's a regular part of my life already. There are so many other things I really need to work on. (Now I have to remember that I'm a "week ahead" again . . . :-) I hope everyone else is having success with their goals to be healthier, wealthier, and wiser. (Or whichever clever statement Louise started us off with on this journey.)

WordGirl Week 29 Item #42

Number 42 says to "Make & keep at least 1 needed eye, ear, nose, throat, gut, hinnie, foot, tooth, whatever Dr appointment this week." For my white board reminder, I just put "Make and keep at least one needed dr appt this week." But I didn't actually follow through on this 3F2E. I generally make and keep appointments as I need them. The only thing that I need to follow up on is scheduling my first-ever colonoscopy. Since I've just changed from my work insurance to being on Louie's insurance, I want to know what my coverage is and if I can continue to see my care provider, etc. I joked that since Louie didn't have his first colonoscopy until he was 56, I can wait that long, too.

Seriously, I'm trying to take good care of my health. Avoiding salt (which I love, but my blood pressure does not) and exercising are a higher priority than seeing doctors right now.

My other big "to-do" item *also* remains undone . . . planning our BWCA trip details! I made some progress on Saturday, along with Morgan's help. There's definitely much more to do, though, so that may become today's (Monday, July 24) priority.

Time to wipe the slate and pick a new number! I'm having fun with Triple F, Double E, but I'm kind of bummed that no one else seems to be following through with it.

WordGirl Week 28 (again) Item #39

So Item #39 was "Work on your bucket list this week" and I've already blogged about that. I added one "to-do" item to focus on. "Plan Somers summer bday party!"

I love summer vacation and time to catch up on stuff! Since I don't have a bucket list (as in "things to do before I die"), I worked on other stuff. It was so nice! And of course, I spent a lot of time playing with our puppy. The picture is of Titus shredding an empty pop box with some toys in it. Yesterday, I made some ice cubes with little pieces of puppy food in them for his chewing pleasure.

Planning the birthday party has gone well. I need to check with one niece about whether or not she'll attend, buy some groceries, and wrap the gifts. We're celebrating my sister-in-law Nan (July 8) and my brother Tom (July 23). I like getting together with family members and enjoying the stories!

WordGirl #39 bucket list

For last week (July 2-8), I drew #39 which says "Work on your Bucket List this week." I don't actually *have* a bucket list . . . not in the sense of "things to do before I die." Yet although I thought, "Done!" it was on my mind all week. . .

I have goals (health, financial, home, etc.) that I work toward. I have wishes (I hope to have grandchildren to dote on someday, I'd love to travel more to many places, etc.). And I have way too many to-do lists! But I don't have a bucket list.

I guess I try to live each day as though it could be my last one on Earth. None of us knows the day we'll die (true for most of us), so enjoying each day and living it in thankfulness and joy - that's what makes a difference. As a believer in Jesus Christ, I want to live with His light shining through me. I fail miserably (on a regular basis) because I'm essentially pretty selfish and kind of mean. I'm so grateful for His grace and mercy! I sure need it. My bucket is full.

Ha! After writing this, I went to draw my next slip of paper . . . and realized I was a week ahead. A full week! I guess being out of town for ten days and trying to catch up was incredibly productive. Guess I'll contemplate my bucket list and goals (and maybe get some of my "to-do" list items done) for another week!

WordGirl plays catch-up (but doesn't eat ketchup)

So it looks as though my past posts have zero views . . . which isn't a big problem for me. I usually blog for myself, not for an audience. But it's hard to encourage others in their efforts if I don't really know who's doing what. It was nice to see Ann and Louise yesterday. Lots of projects going on!

For Week 25 (June 18-24), I had item #7 "Stop eating after 7pm this week." Ironically, this is one I had been doing very well on for most of the past three years! But on this particular week in June . . . not so much! Late-night eating used to be a huge problem for me, but if I eat dinner around 6pm and then brush my teeth, I resist the urge to chow down later in the evening. Sometimes, though, we live on "lake time" even here at home and eat dinner later. So at least twice if not three times, I blew this one!

For Week 26 (June 25-July 1), I had #49 "Encourage someone who needs an extra bit o' loving this week, send a note, place a call, give a hug." Since we were up at the lake, I mostly focused on loving my husband! But I did send a few notes and cards. Since it's summertime, it feels good to get back in the habit of connecting with people more often. I love snail mail!

For this week (July 2-8), I'm going to blog right now and be done! I got #3 "Drink at least 1 more glass of water than you normally would this week." My goal (using my Fitbit app) is 64 ounces per day, but I almost *never* drink that much water. I'm definitely doing better this week than usual, but it's sad that I have to make such an effort to drink water instead of pop, coffee, etc. This one will be an ongoing goal for me!

There! I'm caught up now. Not that it probably matters to anyone but me . . . I'm a completion-oriented individual. "Finish what you start" is part of who I am.
